It’s now just two weeks until moving day, so we’ve really been trying to check a bunch of New York things off of our list! Andrew’s sister and her fiance came to visit us this past weekend, and we dragged them along on a few adventures. Saturday, we started the day with bagels from our favorite Terrace Bagels (with Temp Tee cream cheese, of course).
We took the ferry to Governor’s Island, which Andrew has always wanted to visit. It was really cool! I loved seeing all of the old brick buildings that used to serve as U.S. Army headquarters. We explored the 172-acre island, having a picnic lunch of (kind of forgettable) foods from the street carts there and relaxing in hammocks afterwards. There was a spectacular view from the Hills, a park on the south end of the island:

On our way home, we stopped for ice cream at Van Leeuwen—delicious!

The next day, we headed upstate to Storm King Art Center, one of the most unique museums we’ve ever visited. Enormous sculptures pepper the sprawling landscape, and exploring the grounds is like a grand-scale treasure hunt, with more interesting art works around each bend. Here are some of my favorites:

I had heard about Dr. Mike’s Ice Cream in Bethel, Connecticut, and since that was only an hour from Storm King, we decided to add it to the end of the trip. WOW! The famous chocolate lace flavor was quite an experience. I think my “small” serving contained at least 1 1/2 cups of ice cream, but the sweet cream flavor full of chocolate-coated crispy sugar shards was so delicious that I had no trouble finishing my portion!

We ran into some traffic coming back into the city, but it was all worth it for such a fun day. After a late dinner we finished off 3 Idiots, a really fun Bollywood film we had been watching over the course of several nights, and then rested up for my last day of work, which was today! I don’t quite know what to do with my self at this point, but I’m sure I will figure it out. 🙂 Hope you have a great week, and I’ll be back with another recipe for you next Monday!
